An open wound of love…

I ran across this quote by Richard Foster today. I found it to be very moving and thought provoking.

“Today the heart of God is an open wound of love. He aches over our distance and preoccupation. He mourns that we do not draw near to him. He grieves that we have forgotten him. He weeps over our obsession with muchness and manyness. He longs for our presence.”

We often talk about how we want to “feel God’s presence” more. We want to know he is near. What if when we say that God simply replies “me too”?

I am discovering that I allow small things to shift my focus. I allow a lot of situations to keep me from being present to God.

What about you? Do you find Foster’s quote to be true in your life? How can we be more present to God?

Looking forward to the conversation.

  1. I agree with you. Sometimes I struggle to stay focused on what God is doing in my life and what he wants me to do for Him, and maybe I take it for granted. Here lately I have been wanting to know that God is close, that He is with me…maybe the reason why I haven’t been given a “clear” answer or feeling is because I am not as close to Him as I should be. Our relationship with God shouldn’t be one sided…we need to work too, not just Him that’s making it work.

  2. I personally believe the keys to staying close to God is through his word and prayer. Scriptures teaches: In the beginning was the word, and the word was with God, and the word was God. Anytime we are in his word….we are in his presents.
