bad tipping and giving God 10%…can’t we do better???

o-I-GIVE-GOD-10-PERCENT-TIP-570

I’m sure by now many of you have heard the brew-haha about the pastor who refused to tip a server at Applebee’s. If not, here’s a link. You know, too many friends of mine who have served in restaurants all say the same thing: Sunday after church is the worst time to work in a restaurant.

Unfriendly, complaining customers.

Bad tips.

Can’t we do better?

Now, I don’t think we should beat a dead horse…this pastor did what she did, got someone fired, and that is unfortunately that. This, however, should remind us that how we actually live speaks much louder than what we say we believe.

It’s one thing to believe that God is gracious and compassionate and merciful.  It’s a whole other thing to live toward others as if that were really true.

It’s one thing to believe that we are called to love God with all our being and our neighbor as our selves. It’s another to enter into the blood, sweat, and tears of making that a reality.

It’s one thing to believe that God is generous. It’s another to be generous like God.

It’s one thing to give God 10% of our money/time/talent/life. It’s another to give him all of us…and to, in turn, give our lives away in service and compassion toward others.

May we talk less, and live more. May the God we believe in and talk about be the God we give our whole lives to…so that we can be transformed and live generously, compassionately, mercifully…just like he does.

grace and peace.
