we’re going to keep ‘pressing on’…

Press On Title

This Sunday at Morgantown Community Church we will be continuing one more week in our ‘Press On’ series. I had originally planned to end the series with last week’s teaching, but after thinking on it a bit, this week’s teaching will be a more appropriate ending.

This Sunday we are going to explore the tension that grace brings into our lives. Grace is a free gift, yet the writers of Scripture keep insisting that following Jesus isn’t a matter of belief only, but it’s also about what we do–how we actually live and move and treat others in the world.

In Eat This Book, Eugene Peterson provides this helpful insight into the intersection of belief and action.

“The most important question we ask of this text is not, “What does this mean?” but “What can I obey?” A simple act of obedience will open up our lives to this text far more quickly than any number of Bible studies and dictionaries and concordances.”

Could it be possible to know lots of information about following Jesus, and to believe ‘all the right things’ about Jesus [as if anyone can/does] …and yet completely miss the mark because we don’t actually live it out like Jesus?

I’m afraid so.

So, join us Sunday at MCC to explore this beautiful, challenging tension that comes with taking Jesus seriously. Also, plan on checking back in next week, beginning with Monday,as we discuss being good tippers at restaurants. Here’s a link to get the ball rolling:
