Which will I choose?

A.W. Tozer, in  The Root of the Righteous, said:

“We must do something about the cross, and one of two things only we can do-flee it or die upon it.”

Tozer’s words serve as a reminder to us of the challenge that Jesus presented his disciples [i.e. US!] with in Luke 9:

23 Then he said to them all: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me. 24 For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will save it. 25 What good is it for you to gain the whole world, and yet lose or forfeit your very self? [TNIV]

What does it mean to “carry your cross daily”? In what ways do we, as Tozer said, “flee” the cross?

Looking forward to the conversation…

  1. We must meet Jesus on His terms and not ours…he expects and deserves our complete allegiance. Potent comment isn’t it? Without sounding too cliche’…it’s a lot easier said than done. As one of His disciples…sometimes I want to think my crosses are too heavy and too hard to carry; but in reality, all Jesus expects of me is to face my “cross” head on. I know He is going to help me…but my responsibility is to pick it up and start carrying it.
