My good friend Randy Cook, pastor of Crossroads Community Church in Lebanon, TN recently wrote a post about “The Power of a Rumor.” Click here to read the post, then come back here and share your thoughts.
Can you believe that a rumor actually caused a gas shortage? Can you believe that people were actually buying more than four times as much fuel as they needed?
Can you imagine a world that takes Paul’s challenge in Philippians seriously?
“3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, 4 not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.” [Philippians 2v3-4 TNIV]
It just shows that rumors, are powerful and hurt people no matter what or who they’re about. I don’t think most people set out to gossip or spread rumors, but it is just so easy to do. I’ve been trying every day to pray, ” Set a guard over my mouth, Lord; keep watch over the door of my lips”, Psalm 141:3 TNIV
