Who needs Jesus?

Last night Carla and I were picking up a few odds and ends at one of those large grocery store/department store/service station/fast food restaurant places. As we were walking toward the check out we passed a t-shirt rack, and one of the shirts really grabbed my attention.

I laughed [loudly] at first glance. It is a bit funny. I love the cross-hairs in the letter “o”. But as I thought more about it, I started to get a bit tweaked over it. Look at the finger that is pointing at everyone who passes by. This message suggests that everyone needs Jesus, except the wearer of this shirt. It is a bit self-righteous.

Honestly, I started wondering…who doesn’t need Jesus? We all do. We are all in desperate need of the healing and forgiveness that only he can bring to us.

So, let me be the first to say…I do need Jesus. And I am okay with that. It’s a good thing.

Do you ever find yourself thinking way too much about a message on a t-shirt?

  1. I am thinking way too much about this shirt now. I am trying to figure out why it is out there…why it was made…and who would wear it. To a Christian this would be another Christian t-shirt to wear (those things you love to preach about). I don’t like how it points at everyone passing either. It sort acts like a judgement. It is judging everyone that passes, but not judging the person behind the label. Maybe if it removed the “you” and added a question mark to make “Need Jesus?” and then make the pointing finger a set of praying hands…and add a bible verse to the back it would be fine, but….see there I go thinking too much about it! So to answer your question, I guess I do spend too much time thinking about the messages on t-shirts.

  2. I was always told that when you are pointing your finger at someone, you have 3 fingers pointing at yourself. It is something to think on. It always made me think before I start to point a finger. Just a thought.

  3. I get what everyone is saying, but I just saw it as a play on the slogan/image, ” Uncle Sam Needs You “. After looking at it more, I agree that it might put off some people, but it also might be a catalyst for discussion.

  4. I never look at shirts people are wearing. Its clever and it at least brings Jesus to mind. Im sure the owner of this shirt will at some point look in the mirror and solve the problem at hand.
