Last night my wife Carla stepped up for our co-ed softball team. We were going to be short on players, and even though she had not played in years she was willing to give it a shot.
Her shining moment came in the second inning when she put the ball in play, and drove in a run!!! I was so proud of her. Not just of her RBI, but of her willingness to take a risk and put herself out there.
Honestly, most of the time my tendency is the exact opposite. I often refuse to take risks, to put myself out there. Sometimes it stems from a lack of courage, and other times its a lack of self confidence.
Either way it makes me wonder what great experiences that I’ve missed, or am missing because of a failure to seize the opportunities that God has placed in my path.
Paul put it like this in Ephesians 5, ” 15 Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, 16 making the most of every opportunity…” [TNIV]
What opportunities do you need to make the most of?
I need to be sure to hear the opportunities God has for me. Sometimes it’s easy to miss an opportunity that He sends our way because we are too busy to see it for what it really is.
