This week at MCC, we are beginning a new series called “Bible Stories for Grown-ups.” The big idea behind this series is simple: so often we read the Bible like its a collection of children’s stories, entertaining and there’s usually a good moral at the end, but definitely not relevant to our 21st century, grown-up lives. My hope is, that during this series, we can see these stories in a different light. Could these old stories take on new meaning for us?
This week we are going to look at a story of courage, the story of David and Goliath.
So, since we’re talking about courage, I thought we could start by sharing something we’re afraid of.
I’ll go first: I am terribly scared of heights.
What about you?

I am like you, very afraid of heights! My knees start to tremble, my heart starts pounding, and I get very clammy on the second step of a ladder.

I used to be afraid of everything! Bugs, dogs, thinking Freddie Kruger might be in my closet(all when I was a kid)…afraid of not being what people expected me to be.
It wasn’t until I moved away from Morgantown that I realized that I didn’t have to be what anyone else thought I should be. It was a great experience to live elsewhere and not be someone’s little sister, etc. I was a pretty good person all on my own.
Moving back here has made me regress back to that shy little person I used to be. I am afraid of not being able to overcome the idea that I am suppose to be that person, but with God’s help, I can live out His plans for me. Too much info??

I am like Cody, I am afraid of death. I am also afraid of driving. I drive all the time, but people really scare me with the way they just whizz past you like you are sitting still on the road. So I guess I am afraid of wrecking too then!
